Skyhooks Engineering was proud to be selected as structural engineers to support a local Yorkshire community group on the purchase and refurbishment of the Grade II listed birthplace of the Brontë Sisters. The building is where the Brontë Sisters and their brother Branwell, were born and lived before moving to the parsonage in Haworth.

Since their departure, the Brontë Birthplace has had various owners and undergone several changes of use over the years. We were initially appointed to carry out a non-intrusive inspection of the building ahead of purchase. A detailed structural report was delivered, appraising the structure of the building, and advising on any defects the client should be aware of which might require attention and remedial works.

Our client was impressed by our honest assessment and the guidance we have provided for the refurbishment of building to create a community space at ground floor as well as accommodation at first floor. The project will provide the opportunity of creating further local employment in the community and allow tourists to experience a stay in the birthplace of the Brontë Sisters.

If you have a local community project that needs structural design support, feel free to reach out to our experienced engineers for some friendly advice.
