April 2023We were appointed for the structural design of an exclusive collection of 13 timber framed houses. The design was carefully developed with the timber frame contractor with the purpose of suiting their precise methods of working. The off-site manufacture of the timber frames provided programme benefits, allowing the superstructure to be progressed in a factory environment in parallel with the groundworks taking place on-site.
The completed development delivers energy efficient and low carbon homes to the market which supports our values of minimising the environmental impact of the construction industry.
Switching out the blockwork inner leaf in traditional masonry construction for a timber frame reduces embodied carbon by approximately 30%, increasing to 50% if you go for larch cladding over an external brick leaf!Source: The RIBA Journal 2021
